Doctors’ Day: Investing in Talent to Transform Access to Quality Care

Western North Carolina is a beautiful place to call home, boasting some of the most wonderful landscapes in the country. There is much that goes into choosing to plant roots in this region – and access to high-quality health care is arguably — and for good reason – at the top of many of our lists. At UNC Health Pardee, we recognize the importance of providing an exceptional caliber of physicians who offer excellent care and embody the spirit of compassion, dedication, and excellence that define our institution.

Doctors’ Day is a time to acknowledge the work of Pardee doctors, who strive to improve the lives of our communities. Our physicians serve with unwavering commitment, whether in the clinic, operating room, or hospital. They are not just health care providers—they are our neighbors, friends, and trusted advisors, helping our community navigate the complexities of their health journeys.

Building a Stronger Foundation for Access to Care

Pardee has always been committed to providing high-quality health care to the region. However, as our community’s healthcare needs continue to grow and evolve, we understand providing exceptional care requires more than just technology and facilities—it requires a team of physicians and medical professionals who are second to none. Our commitment to hiring the best talent is at the heart of everything we do.

As the Chief Medical Officer for UNC Health Pardee, I am fortunate to see firsthand how we are growing to meet the needs of an expanding and diverse population. With an increasing network of providers and specialists, we offer a wide range of services that meet the immediate needs of our patients and ensure long-term health and wellness. This growth is a testament to the stature of professionals who are choosing to work at Pardee, drawn by the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives.

Attracting Top Talent to Our Team

A key element of Pardee’s ongoing success is our ability to attract and retain top medical talent from across the country. As we expand, we are continuously enhancing the strength and breadth of our medical staff, ensuring we have the expertise necessary to provide high-level care in various specialties.

Dr. Hannah Machemehl is a perfect example of this. Board-certified in neurology, neuromuscular neurology, and electrodiagnostic medicine, she relocated from Austin, TX to join Pardee because she said she connected with our culture and mission of the highest quality patient-centered care in a non-profit setting. “Pardee offers an opportunity to join a group of smart and dedicated neurologists and improve access to neuromuscular specialty care in western North Carolina,” Dr. Machemehl said.

Our growth in attracting new physicians and specialists is a direct reflection of the positive impact we have on our region’s healthcare landscape. From experienced practitioners to fresh talent entering the field, we are proud to offer an environment that fosters collaboration, innovation, and professional development. The opportunity to work alongside some of the brightest minds in medicine is a major reason why talented physicians chose Pardee.

Dr. Chadwick Leo left the Sunshine State for western North Carolina, joining Pardee OB/GYN Associates as the medical director for obstetrics and gynecology. He said the feeling of inclusivity and welcoming nature at Pardee was very appealing. “From the professional aspect, the opportunity to help improve and coordinate services to enhance women’s healthcare was a new and welcoming challenge,” Dr. Leo shared. “My passion is to strengthen women’s care from a patient-centered focus; having such a supportive administration and willingness to help move this forward sealed the deal.”

As we expand our team, we remain deeply committed to creating an environment where every doctor – whether they have been with us for years or are new to our organization – feels supported, valued, and empowered to make the best possible decisions. This commitment to our physicians ensures they can continue to grow, learn, and stay at the forefront of medical advancements while providing the best care.

A Commitment to Excellence

Doctors’ Day is a time to celebrate our physicians’ extraordinary efforts while recognizing the entire medical team that supports them. Together, we form a team committed to the highest standards of care and patient safety.

As we continue to grow, we remain focused on our mission to improve the lives of the communities we serve. We are building on our legacy of excellence by attracting top talent, expanding our services, and continuously improving quality care. We are proud to honor the contributions of our doctors and celebrate their unwavering commitment to their patients.
