Visit the emergency department or call 9-1-1 for potentially life-threatening symptoms or injuries, such as:

  • Chest pain
  • Drowning incidents
  • Drug or alcohol overdoses
  • Head injuries that result in confusion or fainting
  • Intense jaw or neck pain
  • Obvious broken bones, especially if the bone has punctured the skin
  • Profuse bleeding
  • Seizures
  • Serious burns or electric shock
  • Severe food poisoning, abdominal pain, diarrhea or vomiting
  • Significant allergic reactions
  • Spine injury
  • Stroke
  • Sudden inability to walk, speak, move, or see
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Trouble breathing
  • Unconsciousness
